Mesa Swivel Stool
Powell & Bonnell
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
Jake Olivera’s Mesa Swivel Stool is a study in function, materiality, and ingenuity. Conceived with comfort in mind as a bar or counter stool, ease of access when pulled up to a counter is a significant consideration. The concentric rings of the base, floating footrest and offset backrest create a harmonious play against the converging upright supports and sloping arm. The use of 3D printed mockups and CAD was significant in the development of the Mesa Stool for their benefit in exploring & understanding the interplay of belting leather & steel and the concealment of mechanical and fastening elements. Making the design appear simple and elegant while overcoming several technical and aesthetic challenges was the reward.
