SPLASH is part of Deirdre Dyson’s new 2022 rug collection, ‘All at Sea’. The collection is the result of the metaphorical and literal disconnect from ‘normal’ life that took place during the height of the Covid pandemic. As Deirdre explains, “During lockdown I found myself marooned on a boat for nearly three months, as we couldn’t get ashore without isolating” as such her muse became the surrounding endless sea.

Deirdre found herself transfixed by the movement of water – the way it transforms and reflects in sunlight. She explains, “The sea became my inspiration [I have] always been fascinated by the light patterns the sun makes in shallow water….and the collection gave me something to think about and work on.” SPLASH is one of two large scale designs using the myriad blues of the Mediterranean to create sublime abstract forms, hand knotted in Tibetan wool highlighted with purest silk.
