Baines’ Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary

Rebuilt within a private concession of Botswana’s Okavango Delta bordering Moremi Game Reserve, Baines’ Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary is a six-key safari retreat designed as a series of architectural framing devices. Public pavilions are elevated above water, directing uninterrupted views across floodplains and seasonal channels. Spatial planning draws measured reference from the landscape studies of Thomas Baines, influencing composition rather than decoration. A retained termite mound anchors the bar, expressed through a woven ceiling installation. Bespoke joinery, carved timber detailing, natural stone, and handwoven grass embed local craft within a restrained, site-led interior language.
