LW Design designed Yu & Mi Restaurant & Bar at Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai as an ode to the golden age of 1930s Shanghai. Inspired by Chinese Art Deco establishments of the era, the interior reflects Anglo-Chinese influences and oriental heritage through a layered palette of wood, brick, decorative plaster, lacquer and concrete, combined with accents of metal, leather and velvets. A dramatic bar gantry, conceived as a lacquered birdcage, forms the focal point of the space, while angled brick walls and shifting floor finishes introduce movement and atmosphere within the compact interior.
