Simone van der Plas transformed a dingey cottage into a cohesive rural retreat deeply connected to its New Zealand setting. Reconfigured planning improved flow, storage, and functionality including developing a granny flat and purpose designed office and equestrian outbuildings.  A restrained material palette of oak flooring, hemp linen textiles, soft colour palette and layered lighting introduces warmth, texture, and character. Antique fittings crafted from repurposed objects celebrate the cathedral ceiling and add individuality. Simone designed a new kitchen that is stylish andmaximises storage and efficiency, while complementary outbuildings and landscaping unify the property into a practical, character-rich modern country home.
